tim holtz tag - nov challenge

Tim_tag_7_2

Tim Holtz posted a November technique challenge on his blog the other day, and I'm totally enamoured... with the tag that is...or is the technique...or is it his charming manner?  Whatever it is ... back to the post...ahem cough cough... this month's technique combined a number of elements that I had wanted to try out - so let's go!

These directions follow Tim's tutorial - I just changed the colors and stamps and embelllishments - the layout is Tim's.

Step one: Using three Distress hues smear them onto a non-stick craft sheet,  spritz with water using a Mini Mister, then drop the tag into the wet colors, spinning it around.  Heat set and repeat spinning & drying until look is achieved.

Step two:  Apply one of Tim's masks.  Tim has a new masking video out showing how fun these masks are to work with!  This one is Flourish.  I worked Distress Peeled Paint along the mask using a blending tool.

Step three:  Keeping the mask in place stamp using a text (Hero Arts script here) or other background image.  Wipe mask with a cloth and remove.  Ink tag edges if desired.

Step four:  grungeboard!  Using a butterfly from Tim's grungeboard Elements, apply lightest color ink (Shabby Shutters) with blending tool...

Then a medium color ink (Peeled Paint) ...

Then the darkest ink (I used Distress Pine Needles).  I inked the floral image from Tim's Nature's Discovery using Peeled Paint - looks like toile now!

Finished tag - grungeboard was adhered using Glossy Accents; an ink nib was adhered for the butterfly body and I hand wired the antennae.  The delightful verse is also from Tim's Nature's Discovery set (Stampers Anonymous).

Thanks Tim, for this month's technique challenge and for developing these awesome masks!!
