I am using ideas from Mish Wooderson's post here and Pam Hooten's clippie idea (toot by Beth Silaika) today! Pam's clippie idea was also featured in a Take Ten magazine a while back so you may have seen her great idea there as well.
These owl treats (covering Skittles) are for a few of my 6th grade daughter's friends. She asked me to make a few gift/treats for her closest buddies.
The Skittles cover is simply a piece of PaperTrey Ink (PTI) kraft cardstock and a small strip of their decorative paper. Marvy oval and oval scallop punches, and PTI Wise Owls and Spooky Sweets sets were used. For a video showing how to mount clear stamps on a curve, here is Lisa Spangler's most excellent video!
For the owls: Owls were stamped onto PTI kraft cardstock and edges colored in quickly with Copic markers and cut out (just like Mish's project). From Licorice Memory Box cardstock I punched then embossed small rectangle scallops from Nestabilities. I used googley eyes to save time (adhered with glue dots - super fast).
Now, for the dash of greenery: Cuttlebug die and oliv-ey green felted wool! Once wool was diecut the 'flower' was cut in half.
Assembly: using trusty 'ole E6000 cement create as sandwich of owl, felted wool greenery piece, paper clip, then black scallop rectangle cardstock piece.
Once assembled I used hinged wooden clothespins as clamps. Let dry about 12-24 hours - use E6000 in a well-ventilated area - it's stinky!
Here's the loot for their buddies - at the top of this picture: For my 3rd grade son's special education class (there are 4 students) I created the hinged metal tins (Skittles inside), covered in PTI paper with the branch from Out on a Limb set. I used bigger googlie eyes on the owls for the tins.
supplies: Nestabilities dies, Memory Box and Ivory cardstock, and Copic markers from Ellen's store; felted wool from J Caroline Designs; large gold paperclips from Staples; Altoid-style tins from StarLitStudio.
